Can you believe it’s almost 2011?
It’s time to start a new tradition. Something fun and healthy at the same time.
Some of you are already doing it, since the Pill Advised audience is some of the most health-conscious people around.
So what’s the new tradition?
Toasting the New Year with sparkling apple cider. Not only is it festive, but the latest research points to the benefits of juice for health, including orange, apple, cranberry, pomegranate and more.
It’s something the Galland family enjoys, and we wanted to share it with you, to celebrate the one year anniversary of blogging at Pill Advised.
We write a lot about pills such as vitamins, common over the counter medications, and prescriptions. But we also cover nutrition, because what you eat and drink can interact with what you are taking.
Which brings us to alcohol, which interacts badly with numerous medications.
In case you missed it, we point out a few examples of how alcohol interacts with drugs in our article Bad Holiday Food and Drug Combinations.
So to be able to toast the New Year without alcohol is a great solution.
A family favorite is Martinelli’s a company that has been around since 1868 and makes a flavorful sparkling apple cider.
Trader Joe’s also carries a very nice sparkling apple cider, which I just taste-tested and found crisp, lightly sweet and satisfying.
Have a Happy Healthy New Year!

It’s great to count on you for these very important reminders!
Thanks for your enthusiasm Linda! Wishing you Happy Healthy New Year!
Thank you for the thoughtful message, Jonathan. You read my mind. I have been thinking of the very thing, Martinelli’s sparkling cider for New Year’s Eve, for two days. Now the streets have been plowed, I’d like to think that we could look forward to the fresh taste of sizzling cider in less than seven hours. Let me toast to you and your family: Joy, Art and Health in 2011!
Happy New Year! (Still like Martinelli’s Organic sparkling cider the best)
Happy New Year! My family and I tried sparkling apple pomegrante this year. It was very good. It was a store brand but, it was very good.
Happy New Year !!
Sometimes I mix a little Knudsen’s unsweetened cranberry juice with sparkling water and a pinch of stevia. It’s a great tasting drink and goes well with holiday meals.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year to you and your family.
